Staff Accountant

Location: Livingston, CA | Shift: Days | Status: Exempt | Job ID: #16723

Essential Job Functions

    1. General Ledger, record and track cash/investment journal entries. Assist with the monthly P&L close. Prepare and maintain account analysis worksheets (AAW’s) for selected balance sheet accounts.
    2. Period/Quarterly Reporting, prepare and record all cash, debt, and investment activity for the period. Review all debt and investment accounts to ensure they are stated properly.
    3. Prepare quarterly debt covenant calculations and corresponding balance sheet, cash flows, and income statements.
    4. Annual Audit, to assist and support manager and financial analyst with annual audit duties. This would include preparing support schedules, account confirmations, balance sheet roll forwards and other support documentation requested by external auditors.
    5. Internal Audit, work with the internal auditors with regard to ongoing audits. Conduct follow up audits and document results.
    6. Forecast, assist in aggregating data for rolling 13 period SG&A forecast. Assist in the review of actual to forecast SG&A variances on a period basis, including providing meaningful explanations for variances.
    7. Balance sheet account reviews, work with corporate accounting’s senior analyst on reviewing and communicating to management status of AAW’s prepared by field accountants.
    8. This will include reviewing AAW’s for accuracy, inquiring about account balances and how transactions are posted.
    9. Board Book, assist in preparation of board book pages. This includes providing analyzing quarterly results of balance sheet and SG&A expenses and preparing commentary.
    10. Escheatment, coordinate the escheatment process with payroll, AP, and workers compensation departments. Prepare bi-annual reports for submission through the use of the Chesapeake system.
    11. Participation with system and process initiatives; coordination of government reports and statistical reports.

Requirements

    1. BS in Accounting/Finance, CPA preferred.
    2. One-three years of Accounting/Financial analysis experience, preferably in food, or consumer goods industry.
    3. Prior public accounting experience preferred and strong accounting skills.
    4. Sound understanding of financial statements.
    5. Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SAP, COGNOS).
    6. Ability and willingness to learn new computer software and systems.
    7. Excellent verbal, written, analytical & communication skills.
